Employee Drug Testing

Use this page to understand when drug testing is required and ensure compliance with City of Baytown policies. Our goal is to support a safe, fair, and accountable workplace.

All employees are required to complete post-accident alcohol and/or controlled substance testing in the following situations, unless outlined in the Exceptions Section.

Employee InjuriesOn-the-job injuries that require medical treatment beyond first aid
  • Injuries caused by another individual
  • Injuries caused by exposure to an infectious disease
  • Environmental injuries (insect bites/stings, heat-related injuries/illnesses, allergic reactions to poisonous plants, animal attacks)
Vehicle AccidentsAny incident involving a City vehicle that results in damage
  • Damages caused by another driver or outside factor
  • Accident occurred through no fault of the employee
  • Authorized, policy-compliant public safety actions (unless reasonable suspicion of impairment exists.)
Property/Equipment DamageAny damage to City or third-party property or equipment resulting from employee actions or omissions
  • Damages caused by another driver or outside factor

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday

  • 7 am to 4 pm

Wednesday and Friday

  • 8 am to 5 pm

The Employee Wellness Center is closed for lunch all days from noon to 1 pm.

  1. After Hours Testing Procedures

If a post-accident drug test is needed while the Employee Wellness Center is closed, please contact Texas Industrial Medical at 281-941-4174.

Supervisors should share the following information when calling TIM:

  • Ask for a post-accident drug screening.
  • State that employee is with the City of Baytown.
  • Provide location information to meet technician (meetings should occur at a City of Baytown facility).

A technician will arrive within the hour to administer the test to the affected employee.
